Mozilla has just rolled out an update for the stable version and the beta for Firefox 8. Starting version 8 the browser will no longer allow third-party add-ons or toolbars to run without user’s explicit consent. Update 7.0.1 for the stable version fixes the add-on issue you’ve been informed about yesterday.
Other new implementations include Twitter among the default search options, allowing you to look for hashtags and usernames. You can now restore tabs on demand, thus instructing tabs to load upon selection; re-ordering and tearing them off the interface has also been reworked.
Further progress has been made for the benefit of web developers as far as Cross-Origin Resource Sharing (CORS) for WebGL goes; plaintext WebSockets when created from SSL pages is now blocked.
There’s better support for HTML5 as developers can now add context menu entries in Firefox using HTML5 markup and increase the number of HTML5 media in a website without affecting performance.
All the new features are available for Windows, Mac and Linux.
